Recognition of city tickets on trains within the city of Wrocław was established in August 2024 and covered 31 stations and stops bearing the name Wrocław, as well as Iwiny. The new agreement, under which the Wrocław Municipal Office will provide regional carriers with nearly a quarter of a billion złoty, will remain in force until the end of 2030.

Continuation of strategic cooperation

Koleje Dolnośląskie runs more than 500 trains every day. Most of them travel to or from Wrocław. Residents of the capital of Lower Silesia are happy to use them because, within a dozen or so minutes, they can get from central Wrocław to even the most distant districts. For example, a train journey from Wrocław Główny to Wrocław Leśnica takes just 12 to 15 minutes.

– URBANCARD on Koleje Dolnośląskie trains is a convenient solution that makes everyday travel easier for Wrocław residents. Integrating the railway ticketing system with Wrocław’s URBANCARD is the result of very good cooperation between the regional and Wrocław local governments. Developing sustainable and accessible public transport is our common goal – says Paweł Gancarz, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.

The trains operate on behalf of the Marshal’s Office, but the city of Wrocław also contributes to running them under the agreement.

– Approximately PLN 241.7 million—that is the estimated value of the new five-year agreement (2026–2030) covering the recognition of URBANCARD on Koleje Dolnośląskie and Polregio trains. This means an average of PLN 48.3 million per year, which Wrocław will allocate to enable residents to use the railway with city tickets. Continuing to recognize URBANCARD on trains is a decision that improves the mobility of thousands of residents – says Jacek Sutryk, Mayor of Wrocław.

The most popular rail destinations within Wrocław include not only Leśnica, but also districts such as Psie Pole, reachable from Wrocław Główny in as little as 17 minutes, Pracze, in 13 minutes, and Wojnów, in 27 minutes. No other means of transport makes it possible to cover these distances in such an attractive time.

– No other means of transport can provide such fast travel around Wrocław. Nearly 300 trains operating in Wrocław every day translate into hundreds of fewer kilometres of traffic jams on the streets of the capital of our voivodeship – says Michał Rado, Deputy Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.

For PLN 67 a month, all of Wrocław is within reach

For people who pay taxes in the capital of Lower Silesia, the City of Wrocław offers an annual ticket for all lines—including regional trains within the city limits—for PLN 800. This means that for less than PLN 67 a month, residents can travel around the city on public transport without limits.

To use this service, passengers need to order a URBANCARD. The card itself has become virtually synonymous with the city’s longer-term ticketing offer, covering periods of more than 24 hours.

– This is an important and positive decision for residents. Wrocław residents expect simple and convenient solutions—and that is exactly what we are providing. Thanks to the agreement with Koleje Dolnośląskie and Polregio, they will continue to be able to travel around the city by train using their city tickets. It is a real saving of time and money that benefits thousands of passengers – emphasizes Renata Granowska, Deputy Mayor of Wrocław.

For PLN 800 a year, passengers can board Koleje Dolnośląskie trains at 31 railway stations in Wrocław and at Iwiny, next to the Jagodno district, and travel within the city. Other tickets that permit such travel include 24-, 48-, 72- and 168-hour tickets; personalized period tickets, except those valid only on two lines; and 30-, 60- and 90-day transferable tickets.

It is worth noting that under this agreement, travel within the city remains free of charge for students and seniors over 65.

– We are pleased that residents of Wrocław and Lower Silesia will be able to use a fleet of modern trains that is regularly expanding. This means more local connections, as well as new destinations east of Wrocław—Namysłów and Brzeg—which we will serve– adds Damian Stawikowski, President of Koleje Dolnośląskie.

To use this offer, passengers only need to show the conductor, during a ticket inspection within the city of Wrocław, the same travel entitlement they present during ticket inspections on city buses and trams.

Similar solutions are already in operation in cities including Warsaw, where city tickets are recognized on regional trains travelling through Poland’s capital.
