Carp is a freshwater fish that has been strongly associated with Polish Christmas traditions for years. It most often appears on the Christmas Eve table fried in breadcrumbs, in aspic or “Jewish style”—sweet, with onion and raisins. Although not everyone is a fan, for many families it is still an obligatory Christmas Eve dish.
At one of the points of sale in Bolesławiec, we saw carp priced at 26 zł per kilogram. Has anyone come across a cheaper offer? Or are prices similar throughout the city?
We are also curious about your habits—do you prefer to buy live fish, or rather carp that has already been cleaned and is ready to prepare? How do you cook it? And most importantly: do you like eating carp, or do you choose other fish or dishes for Christmas Eve?
