The incident took place on the second day of Easter. The duty officer at the Lubin police station received a report that an uninvited guest had entered one of the detached houses. The owner, who was upstairs with her son at the time, heard noise coming from the kitchen.
An uninvited guest in the home—is he a welcome one?
Downstairs, she found a stranger standing by the open refrigerator. In one hand, he was holding sausage, and in the other, ham. He had already managed to pack some of the products into bags belonging to the residents.
– The woman’s scream was heard by her husband, who was in the garage at the time. Together, they spoke to the “guest,” who said that he had come to eat something – reports Assistant Commissioner Sylwia Serafin from the Lubin police station.
She adds: – Showing great empathy, the family allowed the man to have something to eat, unaware that moments earlier, in addition to the “holiday meal,” the 39-year-old had stolen a wallet containing documents and nearly PLN 6,000 in cash.
Court decision
Police officers arrested the “holiday guest.” He was placed in a police cell, and the evidence collected by investigators enabled them to bring him before the court. The court ordered the brazen 39-year-old to be remanded in custody for one month.
Scammers are still active!
This story is a reminder that even during the holiday season, it is worth remaining vigilant and properly securing your property. The police warn: – Not every “hungry guest” stops at the contents of the refrigerator.
