Following the publication on istotne.pl of an article about the planned strike at Kaufland stores, we received information from the German chain.
Here is the statement received from Kaufland’s Press Office:
Wrocław, December 11, 2025
Kaufland stores’ operations on Sunday, December 14
In connection with information appearing in the public sphere about a warning strike announced by one of the trade unions and possible two-hour disruptions to the operation of some stores on the upcoming Sunday when shops are permitted to trade, we would like to assure you that on December 14 all Kaufland stores will be open and will operate during their standard hours.
We guarantee that customers will be able to shop in our stores fully and without any disruptions.
We warmly invite you to all 257 Kaufland stores throughout Poland, including the two newly opened stores—in Nowy Targ and Poznań.
At the same time, we emphasize that Kaufland offers some of the best working conditions in the retail industry, a broad benefits package and competitive wages, which place us second in the sector in terms of pay levels. Regardless of the demands put forward by OPZZ and the way the dialogue is conducted, we are already raising employees’ wages—as has been our longstanding practice—which we do regularly every year. As a result, we remain one of the most respected employers in our industry.
Our priority is to provide customers with a comfortable shopping experience and employees with stable and attractive employment conditions (...).
The nationwide protest action planned at Kaufland stores was announced by the All-Poland Alliance of Trade Unions Confederation of Labour. The union members are still announcing the strike on their social media.
According to OPZZ representatives:
A serious dispute is growing at Kaufland, which has more than 247 stores in Poland and employs around 16,000 people, concerning wage levels and working conditions. (...) OPZZ Confederation of Labour is demanding that basic wages be increased by PLN 1,200 gross for every employee. Despite the talks that have begun, no agreements with the employer have been reached.
In the trade union’s view, the course of the mediation justifies the assessment that it will not lead to a resolution of the dispute within the required timeframe. Recently, the union members approached the employer’s side to request an urgent last-chance meeting, seeking solutions in the spirit of dialogue. In response to the lack of progress, OPZZ Confederation of Labour at Kaufland announced preparations for a nationwide warning strike, scheduled to take place on December 14, 2025, which falls on a Sunday when shops are permitted to trade. The protest will last two hours, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. During this time, employees will have the full right to stop performing their duties.
