On November 12 this year, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the duty officer at the Jawor District Police Headquarters received a report concerning the driver of a heavy goods vehicle who had allegedly crashed into protective barriers at kilometer 110 of the A4 motorway and then continued toward Wrocław.

– A traffic patrol was immediately dispatched to the scene. The police confirmed the presence of the heavy goods vehicle, whose driver had earlier been stopped by another driver – a witness to the incident – reports junior inspector Ewa Kluczyńska, press officer for the Jawor District Police Headquarters. – His decisive reaction prevented the intoxicated driver from continuing to drive.

While speaking with the 59-year-old driver, the officers immediately detected a strong smell of alcohol. A breathalyser test showed that the man had almost 3 per mille of alcohol in his system. The 59-year-old resident of Łódź Voivodeship was immediately detained.

The man also lost his driving licence. After the necessary procedures were completed, he was taken for a medical examination and then to police custody.

The suspect will now be charged with a criminal offence and will face criminal liability before the Jawor court, as well as liability for a traffic offence.

Thanks to the exemplary conduct of the witness and the prompt response of the Jawor officers, a road tragedy may have been avoided. The police remind everyone once again: do not remain indifferent! If you see a driver whose behaviour may indicate intoxication, immediately notify the Police by calling 112.
