In the afternoon, officers from the police station in Nowogrodziec stopped a moped rider who was riding without a helmet. It quickly turned out that the 50-year-old had committed a much more serious traffic violation—he was riding the two-wheeler with more than 2.5 per mille of alcohol in his system.
In the evening, community police officers from Bolesławiec stopped a woman driving a passenger car. Her behavior aroused the officers’ suspicions, so she was tested with a drug test. The result was positive, confirming the presence of prohibited substances in the 42-year-old’s system. At the same time, officers from Nowogrodziec stopped an intoxicated car driver. The 37-year-old got behind the wheel while intoxicated, with 1.5 per mille of alcohol in his system.
All those detained will answer for their actions in court. Driving while intoxicated or under the influence of a drug is punishable by up to three years in prison, a driving ban, and a substantial fine.
Police officers appeal to all road users to exercise caution and remind them that driving after consuming alcohol or drugs poses a deadly threat—not only to the driver but also to other road users.
