Police officers detained two men (aged 41 and 47) suspected of insulting officers and violating their bodily integrity. The incident occurred on November 7 of this year, in the evening, at one of the restaurants in Jelenia Góra.
Police:
Police were called to intervene following a report from the restaurant staff that four intoxicated men had started a brawl. It was established that the reason for their aggressive behavior was the refusal to sell them alcohol—the restaurant staff declined to serve it because the customers were intoxicated.
After arriving at the scene, the officers intervened with the men causing the disturbance. Two of them—the 41- and 47-year-old brothers—behaved particularly aggressively. The officers report: – Despite repeated calls to behave lawfully, they did not comply with the police officers' orders. The men used vulgar and insulting language toward the officers and then attacked them, attempting to hit and push them away.
The aggressors were subdued and detained. They were taken to police custody, where they spent the night until they sobered up and further procedural activities were carried out. The 47-year-old had 1.7 parts per thousand of alcohol in his system, while his brother had more than 2 parts per thousand. The following day, they were charged with insulting public officials and violating their bodily integrity.
The men face up to 3 years in prison for their actions. The case will now go to court, which will decide the detainees' further fate.
Police remind the public that every officer is afforded special legal protection while performing official duties, and that any acts of aggression against law enforcement officers meet with a firm response from the prosecuting authorities.
