Police officers detained three people—a 35-year-old woman and two men aged 31 and 34—in connection with fuel theft and failing to stop for a traffic check. The incident occurred during the night of November 9–10 this year, a few minutes after midnight.

– During a city patrol, officers noticed a Škoda with Czech registration plates on Różyckiego Street. A few minutes earlier, the duty officer had informed them about fuel theft at one of the petrol stations in Jelenia Góra – reports Deputy Inspector Edyta Bagrowska, press officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra. – The driver of the vehicle mentioned above refueled the car and then drove away without paying.

The officers attempted to stop the car for a check. They used visual and audible signals, clearly instructing the driver to stop. However, he ignored the officers’ orders, accelerated sharply and began fleeing through the city streets.

The chase ended on Powstańców Śląskich Street, where the driver, traveling at high speed, lost control of the vehicle. The car crossed the pavement, went onto the roadside and then hit a road sign, a pole and the fence of one of the properties. Fortunately, no one suffered serious injuries in the incident.

There were three people in the vehicle—a 35-year-old woman and two men aged 31 and 34. All three were intoxicated. The test showed alcohol levels ranging from 1.5 to more than 2 per mille in their systems.

Police detained everyone involved in the incident. They were taken to police custody to sober up. After the necessary procedural activities are completed, they will be charged, among other things, with fuel theft, failing to stop for a traffic check and driving while intoxicated.

Officers are currently clarifying all the circumstances of the incident in detail, including determining which of the detainees was driving the vehicle at the time of the flight.

Police remind drivers that failing to stop for a traffic check is a serious crime punishable by up to five years in prison. Driving while intoxicated is a crime punishable by up to three years in prison, a substantial fine and a driving ban.
