We remember the profiles of people who remain alive in conversations and memory, and are still present thanks to the places they helped create.
All these figures share the same desire: for our city and its surroundings to be a place where entire generations can develop their talents, care for mutual relationships and nurture the values that build a community. Their lives—each in a different sphere, from science through culture to social and local-government activities—create a mosaic that tells the story of local identity.
Sebastian Zielonka died on 13 January 2025
Our Friend. A historian and regionalist, a graduate of the University of Wrocław, he studied the history of the area around Bolesławiec and the Polish diaspora. His research and public presentations deepened knowledge of local heritage and inspired residents and students to pursue further inquiries.
Stanisław Chwojnicki died on 1 February 2025
A colonel in the reserve and long-serving local-government official—a former deputy Bolesławiec county head and councillor—as well as a social activist. His local-government career combined public office with concern for the region’s development, while his involvement in public life created pathways for cooperation among various local communities.
Maria Kalisz died on 3 February 2025
A long-serving teacher and headteacher, including at the Medical School Complex in Bolesławiec, she was well known in the local educational community. Her influence on the education system and the shaping of pedagogical values was evident in many generations of students and teachers.
Jan Sysak died on 5 March 2025
An active member of the Society of Friends of Lviv and the South-Eastern Borderlands (Bolesławiec branch), he held organisational roles for many years, including treasurer and vice-president, and was also a member of the colour guard. His commitment to promoting the culture, history and ties with the Borderlands resulted in meetings, exhibitions and educational initiatives that fostered a shared sense of identity and remembrance.
Ryszard Adam Gruchawka died on 27 May 2025
An author of fairy tales, poet and prose writer from Stara Oleszna. His work and involvement in author meetings, workshops and literary initiatives left a lasting mark on the region’s culture
Zdzisław Oszczęda died on 10 June 2025
A local entrepreneur who promoted the concept of “nanowater” through the Nanolaboratory Nantes project. He was also the founder of the “Stomadent” network of dental clinics.
Marek Jaworowski died on 1 July 2025
He was a coach and guardian of the Porcelain Figurines from Bolesławiec, which took part in the original Bolesławiec Gliniada (Glina Show). He worked with Akademia Avatara and the “OCELOT” Foundation for the Support of Culture and Movement. His commitment to youth culture and sport left a lasting mark on the local educational and cultural landscape.
Julian Mycek (died on 8 August 2025)
A former footballer and long-serving captain of BKS Bolesławiec. As a sporting figure of the region, he combined passion with diligence, building a spirit of community among supporters and fostering care for the development of young talent.
Władysław Garnik died on 11 September 2025
An outstanding ceramic artist who collaborated with the Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec. His work and cooperation with museum institutions demonstrated how tradition and modernity can resonate in a single piece, building the region’s reputation at an artistic and craft level.
Regina Stasiak died on 18 October 2025
A long-serving Polish-language teacher at the Construction School Complex in Bolesławiec, she was valued by students and colleagues. Her passion for literature and language inspired generations of young people to discover their own abilities and understand their roots.
