The reader was driving along Cieszkowskiego Street (the city bypass). He was taking the car for a test drive after repairs. The man runs a business professionally involved in car repairs.
Earthworks were being carried out along that road (between the roundabout at Kościuszki Street and the police headquarters). According to the reader, as he was driving past an excavator, a stone hit the windscreen of the car he was driving and caused a large chip.
The reader recounts:
I stopped immediately on the pavement and, after getting out of the car, asked the workers which company they were from, because my car had been damaged and I wanted to use their insurance policy. The answer was surprising. It definitely wasn’t us or our excavator. “So it was a miracle. A stone fell from the sky” [ironizuje czytelnik – red.]. When I asked them to provide the company’s name and the surname of the person responsible, I received no answer (...).
The reader also called one of the companies from Bolesławiec, asking whether the investment was theirs:
(...) It wasn’t easy, but in the end they admitted that it was, but [stwierdzili, że – red.] it wasn’t their responsibility, but that of a subcontractor. Which one? They could not provide such information. I was sent to the police. I could report it there. I respect my time, as I have very little of it. So I reported the damage under our insurance policy. However, this is far from a proper repair of the damage to the car caused by the roadworks.
I think I am not the only person who finds it difficult to pursue compensation for damage to a car caused by various types of inadequately secured roadworks.
What do our readers think about this case? Have you also encountered such problems obtaining the information needed to receive compensation? Is this how it should look?
