The final of the second edition of the “My Area Is Becoming More Beautiful Thanks to RPO” competition was held on 12 May in Wrocław. The competition, addressed to lower secondary school students, consisted of two stages. In the first, students prepared artwork presenting projects carried out with funds from the European Union. The team from the I Private Lower Secondary School in Bolesławiec decided to make a film.
The main character in the film “It Is Good to Return” is a teenage girl named Marta. Two years ago, she left Bolesławiec with her parents. Now she returns and admires the changes that have taken place in her home town. – Making this film took us three days. We wrote the script in two days, and filmed everything on the last day – says Bartosz Jusypenko. – It was great fun – adds Martyna Nawara.
The film presented investments including the redevelopment of Karola Miarki and Żwirki i Wigury streets, the revitalisation of the town parks, the renovation of the main square of Bolesławiec Market Square, the refurbishment of the Old Theatre and the construction of the “Orka” Bolesławiec Water Park.
The judges liked the work, and the team from the I Private Lower Secondary School qualified for the second stage. – This time, however, we opted for a traditional presentation – says Karolina Kwiatkowska. – We did not prepare it perfectly. We left room for improvisation. We did not want our presentation to seem artificial – Martyna explains.
The competition was won by the team from the Non-Public Łużyckie Lower Secondary School in Zgorzelec. The team from I PG came second. As a prize, the Bolesławiec lower secondary school students will travel to Brussels in the autumn. The trip was funded by Member of the European Parliament Jacek Protasiewicz.
Is Bolesławiec really a city that is good to return to? The students from the I Private Lower Secondary School have no doubt about it. – It is a beautiful place, more wonderful than Kraków or Wrocław – says Karolina. – It is simply our city – Martyna emphasises. – We are sentimentally attached to it – Bartosz adds.
