A police officer from the Police Station in Węgliniec demonstrated vigilance and professionalism. – Several minutes before one o’clock in the morning, he heard sounds that could indicate a road incident. He immediately went outside, where he saw an Audi that had crashed into a fence – reports asp. szt. Monika Kaleta from the Press Section of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – The police officer immediately notified the duty officer at the Zgorzelec police headquarters and ran over to check whether anyone needed help.
At that moment, a man got out of the car and began to flee. The officer ran after him and apprehended him after a short chase. Even then, he detected the smell of alcohol on him.
Further actions carried out by officers from the Traffic Division of the Zgorzelec police headquarters showed that the 28-year-old driver had more than 2 per mille of alcohol in his system.

He also had a lifetime ban on driving, and the car he was driving had registration plates assigned to another vehicle. It also turned out that an arrest warrant had been issued for the driver and that he had 224 days of imprisonment to serve.
Thanks to the immediate response of the police officer, who was off duty, the dangerous driver was apprehended. The 28-year-old will now face court for the crimes he committed. He could face up to 5 years in prison.

Let us remember that intoxicated drivers pose a huge threat not only to themselves, but also to other road users. Alcohol slows reaction time, reduces concentration and increases the risk of accidents with tragic consequences.
