Recently, we reported on dogs roaming freely around Bolesławiec:
- on Ceramiczna Street: Reader warns! Dogs roam freely around the city. “They may be dangerous to people”
- in the area of Piaskowa Street: Dangerous dog attacked in the city center. It bit a 15-year-old Shih Tzu.
Today—after two weeks—we finally received a response from the Municipal Police in Bolesławiec. As it turns out, in the first case (the dogs from Ceramiczna), a motion to impose a penalty was submitted to the District Court in Bolesławiec.
Regarding the black dog from the cover photo, we received the following response: “We have no information about whose dog, described by you in point 3), it is.”
Dogs roaming freely in the city can be dangerous for several reasons:
-
Risk of aggression toward people and animals:
-
Even if a dog is calm on a daily basis, it may attack in a stressful situation (noise, crowds, other dogs).
-
They are particularly dangerous to children, who do not always know how to react appropriately.
-
-
Danger to road traffic:
-
Dogs running loose may run onto the road, causing accidents.
-
-
Spread of diseases:
-
Unattended dogs may be unvaccinated, increasing the risk of diseases such as rabies.
-
-
Attacks on other animals:
-
They may chase, injure or kill cats, birds, and even other dogs being walked on leashes.
-
-
Fear and social discomfort:
-
The presence of a large, unfamiliar dog without an owner causes fear—especially among older people, children, or women returning home in the evening.
-
-
A stray dog may also feel threatened (and be at risk itself):
-
It may be hit by a vehicle, poisoned, beaten, or injure itself in unfamiliar surroundings.
