The District Prosecutor’s Office in Głogów filed an indictment on 14 August 2025 against 32-year-old Dawid Z., who on 18 January 2025, driving a Land Rover recklessly along the streets surrounding the market square in Głogów, deliberately violated road-traffic safety rules, thereby creating a direct risk of a catastrophe in land traffic and endangering the lives and health of many people.

Investigators:

The aforementioned individual, driving at a speed that did not allow him to remain in control of the vehicle and being in an inappropriate psychophysical state, endangered at least a dozen people who had to flee from the moving car to avoid bodily harm. The aforementioned individual also damaged property, namely a rubbish bin and two properly parked passenger cars, causing losses of more than PLN 14,000.

The driver’s dangerous driving was captured in several recordings from surveillance cameras and passers-by’s mobile phones.

The perpetrator fled the scene and hid from law-enforcement authorities. The prosecutor issued a wanted notice for the aforementioned individual and then applied to the court for a European Arrest Warrant, which was subsequently issued by the District Court in Legnica.

The suspect was arrested on 18 March 2025. He has been held in pre-trial detention ever since.

What does the suspect himself say about all this?

Investigators: – Dawid Z. did not plead guilty to the offence with which he was charged. He gave extensive explanations. He claimed that he got into the car and drove away because he feared men who were allegedly approaching his vehicle. The evidence secured did not confirm this circumstance. During subsequent questioning, the aforementioned individual admitted that he had been hiding from law-enforcement authorities because he feared the criminal liability he faced.

Z. had previously been convicted in court 19 times for various offences, including offences against life and health and against property, including assault, participation in a fight involving a dangerous weapon, burglary, handling stolen goods, property damage, insulting and violating the bodily integrity of Police officers, failure to comply with a court order, and, several times, drug possession. He spent several years in correctional facilities serving the prison sentences imposed on him.
