The incident occurred on September 16, in the evening hours. Firefighters were dispatched to the village of Dobra, where a kitten had fallen into a well.
The animal was rescued.
Animals often fall into wells, canals or other unsecured depressions in the ground – especially in rural areas or on abandoned properties. This happens because:
-
wells and shafts are unsecured, without covers or fencing;
-
animals look for water or shade without seeing the danger;
-
the lack of lighting and the depth make it difficult for them to get out on their own.
Such situations are life-threatening – an animal may drown, become hypothermic or suffer injuries, and if it is not noticed quickly, it often dies.
That is why it is so important to:
-
secure wells and other depressions with sturdy covers,
-
fence off and mark such places,
-
regularly inspect unused structures.
