Police officers from the Criminal and Investigative Department of the municipal headquarters in Jelenia Góra, working jointly with officials from the Customs and Tax Office in Jelenia Góra, arrested a 44-year-old resident of Karkonosze County. The man is suspected of possessing significant quantities of drugs, illegal firearms and ammunition, as well as organizing illegal gambling.
The arrest followed operational activities carried out by Jelenia Góra criminal investigators. Officers established that the 44-year-old might be involved in trading significant quantities of narcotic drugs and psychoactive substances for financial gain. During the intervention, the man attempted to flee, but was quickly arrested and restrained.
During a search of his home, police officers seized more than 2 kilograms of drugs—methamphetamine, cocaine, ecstasy tablets and an unidentified substance. They also found and secured two firearms, several dozen rounds of ammunition and a significant amount of cash.
At the scene, officers also discovered that the man was running illegal gambling operations. Thirty-two machines used to organize and conduct gambling games were secured. Preliminary estimates indicate that losses to the State Treasury resulting from this activity could amount to as much as PLN 3.2 million.
All the items discovered were secured, and the 44-year-old was taken into police custody. He has already been charged. Under the law, this type of offence carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. In addition, the owner of the premises and the owner of the machines face a financial penalty of PLN 100,000 for each machine seized.
At the request of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, the District Court ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody for three months.
