During the Ceramics Festival, we received information from Readers that there are rats in the centre of Bolesławiec. According to our source, the worst situation is reportedly behind Prusa Street (at the intersection with Magistracka Street), especially around the bins.

We asked the Municipal Housing Management Facility in Bolesławiec about the matter. Kazimierz Łomotowski, head of MZGM:

(…) I would like to inform you that planned deratisation was carried out this spring in the areas administered by MZGM in Bolesławiec. The next campaign is scheduled for autumn. In addition, in situations requiring intervention—for example, following residents’ reports—orders are carried out outside the schedule. Such measures were taken, among other places, in July this year behind the block bounded by Prusa, Magistracka and Karpecka streets, as well as at the municipal pond on Kubika Street.

The director adds:

To increase the effectiveness of the measures undertaken, letters were sent to the managers of adjacent areas and to PWiK Dolina Bobru Sp. z o.o. in Bolesławiec, recommending that they carry out similar measures on their own premises. Only comprehensive and coordinated action by all parties—MZGM, building and water and sewage infrastructure managers, businesses and residents—can limit the problem of rats in the city.

He also appeals to residents:

We appeal to residents to avoid leaving food behind properties and to keep the area around bin enclosures clean. Such practices encourage rodents to multiply and make effective deratisation more difficult. Simply placing bait stations in areas administered by MZGM will not be effective without the simultaneous cooperation of all parties.
