The “Blue Tenement House” is another element in the ceramic transformation of Prusa Street. The façade features cobalt patterns characteristic of Bolesławiec, plant motifs and stamped decorations. The central element of the composition is a large rosette.
The official unveiling took place on Tuesday, August 18. It must be acknowledged that this time attention was also paid to how the ceramic artwork would look in the evening.
The tenement house was illuminated with white light. Thanks to this, after dark the actual colors of the tiles—cobalt, blue and white—are clearly visible. The light does not alter the colors of the ceramics and makes it possible to see the details of the entire composition.
Last year was different
This is a significant change compared with last year’s opening of the ceramic “Gate of Friendship,” also on Prusa Street.
In August 2025, we wrote that the effect of the beautiful mosaic was effectively ruined during its ceremonial unveiling by intense blue-violet lighting. Instead of the tiles’ natural colors, attendees mainly saw a blue glow. Even then, we pointed out that using white light, which does not distort the colors of the ceramics, would have been a much better solution.
And that is exactly what was done this year.
It is encouraging that last year’s comments were apparently taken into account. This time, the lighting does not compete with the ceramic decoration but instead showcases it. As a result, the “Blue Tenement House” looked good on the day of its opening.
The new façade is another point along the ceramic trail being developed in this part of the city.
