Polish Waters in Wrocław are continuing work and planning further investments to remove the effects of last year’s flood and protect hydraulic structures, as well as river channels, against potential threats.
PLN 109 million from the earmarked reserve for flood recovery
The government has allocated a further PLN 109 million to remove the effects of the September flood. These funds will enable projects including the repair of levees, the cleaning of river channels and the modernisation of retention reservoirs. Total government support for Polish Waters amounts to nearly PLN 300 million. The financial support will allow 182 projects to be carried out on watercourses and reservoirs within the area of the Wrocław RZGW affected by the flooding.
The planned projects include activities in the Lower Silesian and Opole voivodeships. Funds from the earmarked reserve will be used to carry out numerous works in areas particularly affected by last year’s flood, including the Nysa Kłodzka river basin, Bóbr River and the Bystrzyca.
Polish Waters: – With financing secured, Polish Waters are launching further projects and gradually initiating procedures to select contractors for these projects under the Public Procurement Law. All of the projects included are to be completed in 2025.
Consultations on Flood Risk Reduction Programmes for the Nysa Kłodzka, Kaczawa, Bóbr and Bystrzyca River Basins
Office:
Due to the existing flood risk in the river basins of south-western Poland, it is necessary to implement comprehensive solutions that take technical, environmental, social and economic aspects into account. Rational planning of measures at the river-basin scale should be conducted in a spirit of dialogue and cooperation among various stakeholders. This will make it possible to develop optimal technical and non-technical solutions concerning flood prevention, protection and mitigation.
That is why we have launched public consultations for the basins of four critical rivers in our region. (…) In June and July this year, we launched consultations on analogous documents for the Bóbr, Bystrzyca and Kaczawa basins. We encourage residents, local-government officials, organisations and everyone interested to familiarise themselves with the content of the relevant Programmes and submit their comments. Their effectiveness depends not only on technical solutions, but also on the active participation of local communities.
