On Saturday, July 19, inspectors from the Wrocław branch of the Lower Silesian Road Transport Inspection—working together with officers from the Electronic Toll Control Bureau of the General Road Transport Inspectorate (GITD)—conducted intensified checks on the A4 motorway. ITD: – The activities were aimed at enforcing the holiday traffic restrictions for heavy goods vehicles with a permissible gross vehicle weight exceeding 12 tonnes.

The result? Inspectors: – At kilometre 156 of the A4 motorway, two vehicles were stopped whose drivers had failed to comply with the applicable traffic bans. One was carrying steel products from Poland to Germany; the other was transporting a tractor unit from the Silesian Voivodeship to the area around Kąty Wrocławskie.

A detailed analysis of the transport documents confirmed a violation of the regulations concerning the ban on heavy goods vehicles travelling at weekends during the applicable summer holiday period. What is more, in one case the inspection revealed a number of additional technical irregularities. The vehicle was found to have, among other things, defective lighting on the tractor unit, different tread patterns on the tyres on one axle of the semi-trailer, a lack of the required reflective marking for long and heavy vehicles, and incorrect marking of a load extending more than 0.5 metres beyond the rear outline of the vehicle.

The outcome? In connection with the detected violations, both transports were stopped and the drivers were fined. Administrative proceedings were also initiated against the carriers and the people responsible for managing transport operations in their companies. ITD:

These proceedings may result in financial penalties being imposed.

The Road Transport Inspection reminds drivers that inspection activities are intended to improve road safety during the period of increased holiday traffic.
