Film meetings as part of the nationwide New Horizons Film Education project began at BOK-MCC in October 2008. The third season of meetings will end in June. The main part of the project is a programme of nine monthly cinema meetings during which young people watch films selected and grouped into thematic series. Each teacher receives teaching materials containing lesson plans for Polish language, cultural studies, history, civics and homeroom classes. The film meetings begin with a lecture given by film scholars, journalists, psychologists or social activists.

The youngest primary-school pupils watched films about power, courage, friendship and cooperation; older pupils watched films about a reward for effort and courage, the problems of telling their mother or father about their troubles, and a boy so fascinated by his Muslim neighbours that he wanted to convert to Islam.

Middle-school pupils considered how to stand up for themselves in various situations—when one has cancer, is rejected by a strict father or by a dead family tradition—and how to gain friendship and acceptance. Students at upper-secondary schools, on the threshold of adulthood, had to confront major topics. Difficult and demanding ones. These included homosexuality, addiction, disabilities, the search for identity and the influence of the environment on our lives.

A meeting for teachers and a screening of "The King's Speech"

Another film-education series, planned for the next school year, will take place if there is still interest. This is why meetings for teachers were organised by BOK-MCC, the New Horizons Association and Wydawnictwo Nowa Era. The meeting will present, among other things, the advantages of film education and the programme for the next edition. After the meeting, the acclaimed premiere of this year, "The King's Speech", will be screened—a story about an extraordinary understanding between a student and a teacher. An understanding that does not undermine the authority of the master, while leaving the student creative freedom. Participants will receive the "Twoja Nowa Era" teaching materials. The meetings will take place on Monday and Tuesday (11 and 12 April) at 4:00 p.m. Admission by invitation only.

In the 20010/2011 school year, 1,400 students from 23 schools are taking part in the programme.
