Update

We asked the Bolesławiec police about the matter. – Since the beginning of 2025, we have received four reports concerning the parking lot at the former supermarket in connection with drifting or noise resulting from loud engine operation. Each time, a police patrol was sent to the scene; however, there were no vehicles or people there – explains junior inspector Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec.

She adds: – In recent weeks, we have not received any report concerning the offense of disturbing the peace in this area.

She also adds:

Police officers have been assigned to check this area for drivers who may violate the law (e.g. driving while intoxicated or possessing prohibited items).

So, is there a problem or not? We invite you to join the discussion. And we appeal to drifting enthusiasts to use safe and permitted places – racing tracks or automotive events organized in accordance with safety standards. And not to disturb either the nighttime peace or the rest of families with children.

Passion is one thing, but a city or county is a community of residents. It is worth remembering that.

In the first half of July, a Reader wrote to us: “Dear editorial team, could you write an article about the problems faced by residents of Bolesławiec, mainly its eastern part and those living on the estate along Tysiąclecia Avenue? The problem we face on the John Paul II estate is constant daily noise and the lack of a decisive response from the police to the road antics of young drivers who, at night, make their exhausts backfire and rev their engines to the limiter. There is also tire burning and pseudo-drifting in the parking lot by the former Tesco.”

He added:

Recently, during the summer, the phenomenon became an unbearable nuisance, because you could set your watch by when the same BMWs, Lexuses or Opel Astras would begin terrorizing the quiet neighborhood with dreadful noise that makes it impossible to sleep or rest in your own apartment. The city authorities and the police could have dealt with this long ago, but so far they have done nothing to effectively stop the practice. There are official penalty schedules, severe fines, the possibility of measuring the noise and confiscating the registration certificate, yet even after a police intervention one night, the exact same hell breaks loose the following night.”

He continued:

Why is the police in Bolesławiec unable to intervene effectively? Why is Bolesławiec allowing the residents of the estate to be subjected to terrible noise every night? (...) It is high time to do something about this, to stop turning a blind eye to such antics. Let the City of Ceramics become a city of culture at a European level, rather than a racetrack for insolent brats who have no respect for the nighttime quiet or for people living in the neighborhood. (…) This issue has often been reported to the police, together with the registration numbers. The police turn a blind eye and allow this practice to continue. It is time for the police to get to work effectively and efficiently instead of being lenient – one begins to wonder whether the officers personally have known these pseudo-drifters since kindergarten or something, because there is absolutely no explanation for such leniency or consent to these road antics. It is time to act, because it cannot be the case that so many families have to suffer and endure road terror.

We asked the Bolesławiec police about the matter. We will publish the response as soon as we receive it.
