From Sunday into Monday, the duty officer at the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters received a report about an intoxicated driver who was at one of the city’s filling stations. Young residents of Osiecznica Municipality first reacted to the theft and then prevented the intoxicated driver from continuing to drive.
While at the filling station, the reporting parties noticed that the man had stolen two beers, followed him and recovered the goods. When they smelled alcohol on the driver and saw that he wanted to leave by car, they took action again and removed the vehicle’s key. They notified the emergency services and indicated the direction in which the perpetrator had left, helping to identify him.
Police officers arrested the intoxicated driver and reviewed surveillance footage, which recorded the moment when the 35-year-old arrived at the station.
A sobriety test of the Bolesławiec County resident showed 3 parts per thousand of alcohol in his system. The man immediately lost his driving licence. In addition, due to the vehicle’s technical condition, the officers also seized its registration certificate. Driving while intoxicated is punishable by up to 3 years in prison.
Heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to the residents of Osiecznica Municipality, who showed courage, prudence and civic responsibility by reacting to the intoxicated driver’s conduct.
