The incident occurred on Monday, 9 June this year, at 11:03 a.m. – Police officers from the Traffic Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica were dispatched to a road incident that occurred at Rondo Niepodległości in Legnica – reports Commissioner Jagoda Ekiert, press officer of the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters. – The officers’ preliminary findings indicate that the driver of a Škoda failed to obey the traffic lights and entered the intersection on a red light, causing a collision with a Fiat travelling correctly.
Both drivers were sober. Interestingly, police established that the injured Fiat driver should not have been behind the wheel at all, as he had two active court-issued bans on driving motor vehicles.
Officers: – We remind you that traffic lights are one of the basic tools ensuring safety on the road. By entering on a red light, drivers not only break the law but also put themselves and other road users at risk. Even the youngest children learn that we stop at a red light because someone else has a green light then.
And they add:
We appeal to all drivers to exercise common sense, obey road traffic regulations and not get behind the wheel if they have a court-ordered driving ban or have had their driving licence revoked.
