At the request of the District Prosecutor in Lubań, the local court applied pre-trial detention to the 70-year-old resident of Lubań in connection with the offence of which he is accused.

The incident occurred on 27 May 2025 in Lubań. – An emergency medical team was called to a man lying on the pavement who, according to the report, was injured – reports Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, press spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra.

She adds: – The paramedics who arrived at the scene determined that the man lying on the ground was intoxicated and had a head wound. He therefore required further medical assistance.

They decided to take him to hospital. At the scene, the patient adopted what is known as a guard position and directed his aggression at the paramedics. As they were approaching the hospital, he pulled a folding knife from his pocket, with an overall length of 17 cm and a 6.5 cm blade, began waving it and threatened the paramedics with mutilation and death.

Prosecutor: – These threats caused the injured parties to have a justified fear that they would be carried out, as the perpetrator did not calm down while they were providing him with assistance. From gestures and threats to use his fists, he progressed to an active assault with a dangerous tool.

The man was charged and faces up to 10 years in prison. He pleaded not guilty. He gave an explanation, stating that he had been heavily intoxicated and remembered nothing.

The man had no prior convictions.
