On Monday, 5 May 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a serious accident occurred on the A4 motorway towards Wrocław, at the 111th kilometre of the route, near Rąbienice.
A coach carrying 35 people left the road and ended up in a ditch. Twenty-three fire service units were dispatched to the scene. Eight people were injured, four of whom were transported to hospitals.
Conflicting information emerged regarding the passengers’ identities. According to senior warrant officer Łukasz Porębski of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław, the bus was carrying tourists from Romania. In turn, Colonel Joanna Klejszmit, press spokesperson for the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, said in an interview with Radio Wrocław that American soldiers were in the vehicle, forming part of a convoy travelling from Germany to Lithuania.
As a result of the accident, the carriageway towards Wrocław was blocked. Police have designated detours, and traffic disruptions may last until 3:00 a.m.
