The case concerns a cemetery in Świeradów-Zdrój. The current cemetery administrator notified the city authorities and the deceased’s family that irregularities may have occurred. As reported by lwowecki.info:

During an inspection, it emerged that the deceased may have been exhumed and his remains moved to another location, unknown at this time. The exhumation—without the consent of the deceased’s relatives—may have been carried out by one of the funeral-service companies operating at the cemetery, which buried another person in this grave.

In a conversation with the Lwówek-based media outlet, Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, press spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, confirmed that a report had been filed in the case. Verification procedures are under way regarding Article 262 § 1 of the Criminal Code.

Desecrating human remains may carry a penalty of up to two years in prison.
