A spring mushroom with a very unusual appearance has appeared in the forests near Bolesławiec. Its cap resembles a human brain and is dark brown, chocolate-colored. The stem is white or cream-colored and hollow inside. We are talking about false morel.

The false morel is considered a poisonous mushroom. It is often mistaken for a morel. It contains a volatile toxic substance—gyromitrin—which causes gastrointestinal disorders and damage to the liver, spleen, kidneys, bone marrow and eyesight.

This mushroom occurs mainly in coniferous forests, less often in deciduous forests, most commonly under pine trees. It grows in spring, from April to May.
