On Monday, before 8:00 p.m., a fatal road accident occurred at the 96th kilometre of the A4 motorway in the direction of Wrocław. – According to the officers’ findings, the driver of a Citroën, a 46-year-old resident of Kraków, was attempting to avoid a disabled heavy goods vehicle combination that had broken down and was stopped in the right-hand lane when he struck the rear of the trailer – reports junior warrant officer Anna Tersa from the Legnica KMP.
She adds: – As a result of the incident, the 81-year-old Citroën passenger died at the scene. The driver, who suffered serious injuries, was taken to hospital.
The driver of the heavy goods vehicle combination was sober and was not injured.
The officers say:

- Adjust your speed to the road conditions and the situation on the road.
- Exercise particular caution, especially when performing manoeuvres such as avoiding obstacles or overtaking.
- Properly mark vehicles in the event of a breakdown by placing a warning triangle at an appropriate distance from the vehicle.
- Use seat belts – wearing them can save your life in the event of an accident.
They add: – Following the principles of caution and responsibility on the road will help prevent tragic incidents such as this one. The police appeal to drivers to exercise prudence and comply with traffic regulations.
