The incident took place in the morning, when traffic on this section of the A4 motorway was heavy. – Bolesławiec police officers received information that a truck with a white trailer was travelling along one of the main communication routes of Lower Silesia, towards the border, and that its driver was clearly having difficulty maintaining a straight course – reports asp. szt. Łukasz Dutkowiak, press officer for the Provincial Police Commander in Wrocław. – The driver, who did not remain indifferent when he saw the deadly threat and reported it to the services, was alarmed by the truck weaving from side to side.

The duty officer of the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters immediately dispatched a police patrol to the motorway. The officers located the truck at the 50th kilometre of the A4 motorway, heading towards the western border of our country. Officers from the Police Station in Gromadka intervened and, using light and sound signals, stopped the TIR driver at the junction of the A4 and A18 roads. As soon as they opened the door of his cab, they detected the smell of alcohol, and moments later noticed an opened and partly emptied bottle of alcohol in the drink holder.

Further actions involving the 63-year-old Latvian citizen confirmed that he had been driving the vehicle, weighing several dozen tonnes, with more than 2.5 per mille of alcohol in his system! The foreign national was detained and, after sobering up, was brought before the District Court in Bolesławiec under an expedited procedure, where he received a sentence for the offence committed.

In addition to losing his driving licence, he must expect a court-imposed five-year driving ban, a fine and a monetary contribution of PLN 5,000.
