The District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec is conducting a preparatory investigation against a 31-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County Marek M.. The suspect is accused of defrauding more than PLN 380,000 to the detriment of one of the priests from the Bolesławiec deanery.

– The investigation findings indicate that the suspect carried out construction work on the premises of one of the parishes in the Bolesławiec deanery. After completing the work, he decided to defraud the priest – reports prosecutor Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, press spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra. – To this end, he forged documents from various institutions, including the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Tax Office in Bolesławiec.

The “documents” indicated that the victim had to pay several tens of thousands of zlotys to these offices as outstanding dues. The priest, suspecting nothing, paid the amounts. However, the money de facto went to the perpetrator, who financed the construction of his own house with it. During this time, the suspect extorted a total of more than PLN 380,000.

Prosecutor: – After being brought to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec, the perpetrator was charged with forging documents and then using them as authentic documents in order to commit or attempt to commit fraud, that is, an act under Article 286 § 1 of the Criminal Code and Article 270 § 1 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 11 § 2 of the Criminal Code, among others.

The suspect admitted to committing the alleged offense and gave explanations. He confirmed that he used the money obtained from the victim to build his own house.

The District Prosecutor in Bolesławiec placed M. under police supervision, imposed a ban on leaving the country and prohibited him from contacting the victim.

The suspect, who had previously been convicted by a court for fraud, faces up to 8 years in prison.
