On 21 February 2025, the Jelenia Góra Regional Court handed down a verdict in the case against Marcin Ł., accused of defrauding several dozen people of PLN 2,523,500. – On 5 November 2019, the Jelenia Góra Regional Prosecutor filed an indictment, alleging, among other things, that, as part of his business activity and through other people, the above-mentioned individual offered and concluded investment agreements on the Forex currency market, in connection with which he collected a total of PLN 2,523,500 from the victims to manage and trade the money – explains prosecutor Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, press spokesperson for the Jelenia Góra Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
Marcin Ł. – through other people with whom he acted in concert – informed the victims about a planned investment on the Forex currency market, encouraging them with high interest rates on the funds deposited, at a level of 30–60%. Spokesperson: – At the same time, he set the level of risk at 3–5%, although in reality investments connected with the Forex currency market carried 100% risk (it was possible to lose all deposited funds within a single day). However, the accused did not inform his clients about this.
Over time, only a minimal portion of the funds deposited by the victims was invested. The aim was to create the appearance of fulfilling the agreements. Prosecutor:
The remaining money deposited by subsequent victims was used to pay interest to people who had made such deposits earlier. The remainder of the funds was used by the accused for private purposes.
The Regional Court, agreeing with the prosecutor’s position, found Marcin Ł. guilty and responsible for the offenses, sentencing him to a combined seven years in prison and a fine of PLN 14,000. He must also compensate the victims for the damage caused and pay the costs of the proceedings.
The ruling is not final. Prosecutor E. Węglarowicz-Makowska:
It should be added that two other people also took part in this scheme; they have already been convicted by a final judgment of the Jelenia Góra Regional Court and received sentences of a similar length.
