We received a report about an incident that took place on Thursday, February 6, after 2:00 p.m., in Bolesławiec:

Riding an electric scooter along Modłowa, on the left shoulder interrupted by a pavement, alternately from the Hoerbiger side toward the Wróblewski intersection, right by the exit from (...) the petrol station, my scooter collided with a car that was travelling parallel in the same direction and turning into the station, cutting me off.

The person who reported the incident added: – The police fined me, claiming that it was my fault – perhaps because I was riding as if against the traffic..

He also stressed: – The driver of the car was not fined, even though he cut me off. I did not expect a car on my right to cut across my path. What is more, the driver said, even in front of the police officers, that he had seen me and thought he would make it..

He also summed it up: “The best part is that, when I received the ticket, I also received penalty points, even though I do not have a driving licence at all. How is that possible?”

Deputy Commissioner Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer of the County Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec, explains:

The man riding the scooter was travelling on the road behind the vehicle; the collision occurred when the car driver wanted to turn into the petrol station and the scooter rider attempted to overtake.

The scooter rider was responsible for the incident, which is why he was fined; he did not receive penalty points. The vehicle driver made a correct manoeuvre.

She also points out:

Contrary to the regulations, the man was travelling on a road where the speed limit is 50 km/h. He was riding a scooter that was not approved for road use because its speed limiter had been removed, allowing it to travel at more than 20 km/h.

Fortunately, the man riding the scooter was not injured and had insurance.
