On Monday, the duty officer at the County Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec received information that an Audi stolen in Austria might be travelling through the county. – The information was passed on to all patrols on duty – reports Superintendent Agnieszka Goguł, press officer for the Commander of the County Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec. – While on duty in the Sulików municipality, officers from the Independent Police Prevention Unit in Legnica noticed a vehicle matching the description provided by the duty officer. The officers attempted to stop it for a traffic check. However, despite the visual and audible signals being given, the driver ignored them and began to flee. He was stopped after a short chase.

Checks in the available databases confirmed that the Audi was the vehicle stolen in Austria. But that was not all. The 38-year-old driver had two active bans on driving vehicles of all categories and was wanted by the justice system – he had a five-month prison sentence to serve.

The driver was taken to the Zgorzelec police headquarters, while the vehicle was taken to the police parking lot. The spokeswoman: – Further proceedings in the case led to the 38-year-old being charged with burglary involving a car worth no less than PLN 100,000, failing to stop for a traffic check and driving despite court-imposed bans.

For the crimes committed, the suspect will await trial in custody and could face up to 10 years in prison.
