The incident occurred on Wednesday (January 29) in the afternoon. Emergency services were dispatched to Mierzwin, where three men had been buried under soil.
Firefighters from PSP Bolesławiec and nearby OSP units (Nowogrodziec, Brzeźnik, Ocice, Warta Bolesławiecka, Stare Jaroszowice), police patrols and medical rescue teams were sent to the scene.
As reported by Senior Captain Sylwester Łasocha of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec:
In Mierzwin, three men were buried in an excavation during earthworks. One man was freed when the fire service crews arrived. The other two men were in the excavation, one buried up to his waist and the other up to his neck.
After stabilizing the excavation, firefighters began manually digging out the buried men. After more than an hour, the men were successfully removed from the excavation and then handed over to medical rescue teams.
The Bolesławiec County Head also dispatched a backhoe loader, which supported the firefighters’ operations by deepening or widening the excavation as needed.
