Research conducted by IQS in January 2025 found that 90% of people had heard of someone who drank alcohol on the day of the prom, 76% had seen such people, and 62% admitted to consuming alcohol. Almost everyone had seen strong alcohol being brought into the prom, nearly half of which consisted of so-called “mini bottles.” Half of the people had seen a drunk prom attendee during the ball.

More than half of those surveyed drank alcohol during the prom, while nearly one in five did so before or after the event. At the prom itself, strong alcoholic drinks, including vodka, are consumed above all. This was admitted by 80% of those who drank alcohol at the pre-graduation ball. Spirits are mainly consumed from large bottles, but more than half of those surveyed consumed them from small bottles, so-called “mini bottles,” before the actual event. The second most popular alcoholic drink consumed at the prom is champagne (28%). Ready-made drinks bought in stores (11%), beer (9%) and wine (8%) are mentioned much less often.

“The prom precedes the matura examination,” comments Bartłomiej Morzycki. “Drinking alcohol is not proof of adulthood or maturity. Unfortunately, a large proportion of young people still believe otherwise and equate the symbolic entry into adulthood with drinking strong alcohol,” says the general director of the Union of Employers of the Brewing Industry – Browary Polskie.
