At night on January 15, 2025, at Węgliniec station, railway guards located a passenger car parked in the woods beside the tracks. – While observing the vehicle, Railway Protection Guard officers noticed a man behaving nervously who tried to drive away – reports Inspector Piotr Żłobicki of the Press Team of the Headquarters of the Railway Protection Guard. – Suspecting that railway infrastructure thieves might be traveling in the vehicle, the officers inspected the car they had been observing.
The officers’ suspicions were confirmed. The spokesperson said: – A 47-year-old resident of Żagań County was traveling in the Peugeot. Near the car, the railway guards found coiled contact wire, a component of the catenary system, which had been stolen that night by the apprehended man. A total of 15 meters of copper contact wire was secured.
The Zgorzelec County Police Headquarters was notified of the case. The losses resulting from the theft were estimated at more than PLN 1,000.
As Inspector P. Żłobicki emphasizes, the 47-year-old had previously been recorded for similar offenses. The case is developing.
