The incident occurred on January 14, 2025, at approximately 8:30 a.m. Jelenia Góra officers were notified by an examiner from the Lower Silesian Road Traffic Centre that one of the candidates who had arrived for a driving test might be under the influence of alcohol.
Police: – According to the examiner’s account, the 21-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra began the practical test in the manoeuvring area, driving a Toyota. Shortly after the test began, the examiner detected a strong smell of alcohol coming from the man. Concerned by his condition and the candidate’s irresponsible behaviour, he immediately stopped the test and notified the police.
Officers from the Jelenia Góra traffic police went to the scene and conducted a breathalyser test. Police:
The result left no doubt: the 21-year-old had 0.6 parts per mille of alcohol in his system, meaning that he was intoxicated. The man not only endangered the examiner, but also other road users by being behind the wheel in that condition.
And he emphasises:
The young man’s behaviour is not only an example of extreme irresponsibility, but also a violation of the law. He will now answer for his actions before a court. Under the law, driving a vehicle while intoxicated may carry a prison sentence of up to three years. In addition, he will have to postpone obtaining the driving entitlement he wants, as his case will be concluded in court, and the sanctions imposed may also include a driving ban.
Police appeal to all drivers:
Never get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol! Even a small amount can significantly affect your ability to drive, slow your reactions and reduce your concentration. In the case of young and inexperienced drivers who are only learning the rules of the road, such behaviour is particularly dangerous.
Road safety is the shared responsibility of all road users. Irresponsible decisions can lead to tragedies that can be avoided by taking conscious and responsible action. Let us remember that following the rules of the road is not only a legal obligation, but above all a concern for our own lives and those of others.
