– On December 30, 2024, the fire service in Jawor was notified of a fire in a barn and two other adjacent buildings in the village of Słała in Jawor County – prosecutor Liliana Łukasiewicz, press spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica, reports. – During firefighting operations, firefighters found a 69-year-old man in front of the building, bound with a cord and tied to a garden chair, with gunshot wounds to the chest. Inside one of the buildings, they found the bound body of another man, aged 51, with blunt-force injuries to the head.

It was suspected that the perpetrator of both acts could be 39-year-old Marcin P.. The man who was killed was his neighbor, while the bound and shot man was his uncle.

Prosecutor:

When the body was discovered, it was not known for certain where the perpetrator was. During the firefighting operation, it turned out that he had been hiding on the upper floor of the burning building the entire time. He had a weapon with him—a black-powder revolver.

To ensure the firefighters’ safety, firefighting was halted and officers from the Independent Counterterrorist Police Unit were called. After entering the building, the officers found Marcin P.’s body with gunshot wounds to the head. The man had taken his own life.

The injured man, Marcin P.’s uncle, was immediately transported to a hospital in Legnica, where he received medical assistance. Prosecutor L. Łukasiewicz: – Initial findings indicate that he suffered bodily injuries in the form of gunshot wounds resulting in a life-threatening illness.

The bodies of both the man with blunt-force injuries to the head and Marcin P. himself were secured for autopsies, which were carried out on January 2, 2025. Investigators:

They preliminarily confirmed the causes of death of both deceased men established earlier and described above. We are currently awaiting the written medical opinions.

Why?

Based on statements from witnesses questioned in the case, it was established that the probable reason for Marcin P.’s actions was mental disorders from which he suffered. The prosecutor opened an investigation into the murder, attempted murder and causing of a fire.
