The city authorities’ answers concerning the lack of funding for swimming lessons for children in grades 1–3 are as evasive as a giant slalom in the Alpine World Cup. If the city spokesperson had put as much effort into the giant slalom as she does into avoiding answers to parents from Bolesławiec, we believe she would have defeated Marco Odermatt himself, the champion in this event and the winner of the 2024 World Cup in Adelboden.
We waited 26 days for the first response from spokesperson Agnieszka Geront concerning the suspension of swimming lessons for children in November and December 2024. We published it in the article Rumors are spreading at Orka, and teachers are passing them on. We are no longer waiting for another response. We asked the parents.
On our Facebook page, parents and instructors write clearly: children in grades 2–3 at Bolesławiec primary schools have not had swimming lessons since September 2024. Since December, first-graders have not had them either.
– December came, and further lessons ended. (...) There were often jokes about the pointlessness of our work, because even if swimming returns in the new year, it can be said that we are starting everything from the beginning. (...) – wrote a swimming instructor.
– What do we need this pool for if there is no money for swimming lessons? – asks one of the parents who contacted our editorial office.
We do not know where the money for swimming lessons went. What do we know?
- 1 594 164.94 złoty were the official expenditures on the Bolesławiec Ceramics Festival in 2024 (including 363 834 złoty – the cost of the stars on the main stage; 97 861.27 złoty – the cost of renting the Glina Da Theater by Bogusław Nowak and the artists involved in the several-hour clay event).
- Swimming lessons for first-graders from January to June 2025 require 280 thousand złoty. There will be no swimming lessons for grades 2–3. It is possible that school principals will decide to provide swimming lessons for grades 2 and 3 only in the 2025/26 school year.
- There is silence concerning expenditure on promoting the city. Piotr Roman did not want to disclose the detailed promotional expenses for 2023 and lost a court case against the editor of istotne.pl. In its judgment of 30 October 2024, the Voivodeship Administrative Court in Wrocław found that the Mayor of Bolesławiec had failed to act. Once the judgment becomes final, Piotr Roman will have 14 days to disclose the expenses.
