We obtained the population figures for the municipalities and city according to data from Statistics Poland as of December 31, 2023, from the polskawliczbach.pl portal. Data on expenditure on caring for homeless animals was received from municipal offices in November 2024.

City of Bolesławiec

The city has 37,160 residents. PLN 500,993.52 was allocated to caring for homeless animals (as of October 30, 2024). The plan for 2025 is approximately PLN 662,022.50.

  • PLN 13.4 per person

The funds were allocated to:

  • Care for homeless animals, under which annual contracts are concluded, including: “Medical and veterinary care for homeless animals from the area of the City Municipality of Bolesławiec—in particular, ensuring 24-hour veterinary care in cases of road accidents involving animals”: PLN 96,710 gross (as of October 30, 2024)
  • Ecology and animal protection, as well as protection of natural heritage—improving the living conditions of free-roaming animals (especially cats) in Bolesławiec: PLN 50,000 gross
  • Payments toward the operation of the animal shelter in Przylasek: PLN 354,283.52

Bolesławiec Municipality

The municipality has 15,214 residents. In 2024, PLN 170,200.00 was allocated to caring for homeless animals.

  • PLN 11.2 per person

The funds were allocated to:

  • providing homeless animals with shelter accommodation: PLN 144,200.00
  • providing 24-hour veterinary care in cases of road accidents involving animals and other services: PLN 9,200.00
  • veterinary services (castration, sterilization, disposal of dead animals): PLN 15,400.00
  • providing a place for farm animals on an agricultural holding: PLN 500.00
  • feeding free-roaming cats: PLN 500.00
  • putting down blind litters: PLN 200.00
  • education and cooperation with educational institutions and non-governmental organizations: PLN 200.00

Gromadka Municipality

The municipality has 5,034 residents. In 2024, PLN 21,855.90 was allocated to caring for homeless animals (up to November 30, 2024) PLN 21,855.90. The plan for 2025: PLN 65,000.00

  • PLN 4.3 per person

The funds were allocated to:

  • sterilization: PLN 10,122.00
  • catching homeless animals and readiness to catch them: PLN 6,198.90
  • placing animals in a shelter: PLN 5,535.00

Plan for 2024: PLN 65,000.00. Plan for 2025: PLN 65,000.00. In 2024, up to November 30, PLN 21,855.90 was spent, plus expenses not yet settled and expenses (orders) not yet incurred. Exact amounts cannot be provided because the orders have not been completed, and we do not know whether all tasks will be carried out in accordance with the orders or what costs will be incurred (e.g. five dogs are to be caught and taken to a shelter; it is not known whether all of them will be caught, and sterilization costs are not always the same).
