Wałbrzych police officers’ actions led to the arrest of a man who produced counterfeit money at his place of residence. As he told officers, he “wanted to have a lot of cash and show off his wealth to his friends.” The 28-year-old quickly realized, however, that the entire scheme was not worth it when he was arrested and heard the charges against him. The court has already decided to apply the preventive measure of two months’ temporary detention.

Before noon, criminal division officers from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Wałbrzych visited one of the houses in the municipality of Czarny Bór. It was there that they secured a considerable amount of counterfeit money. Some of the forged 100-złoty banknotes were still drying on radiators, while others were still being produced. The officers seized a total of 42 banknotes with a denomination of 100 złoty and 51 single-sided prints of them; some were already ready for use. The criminal investigators also seized electronic equipment used to produce the illegal banknotes.

At the scene, the police arrested the man suspected of the entire scheme and then placed him in police custody. The 28-year-old was brought before the District Prosecutor’s Office in Wałbrzych, where he was charged with counterfeiting money. He explained that he produced the money because he wanted to be rich and be able to boast about his wealth to his friends.

The police then took the suspect to the District Court in Wałbrzych, which, after reviewing the evidence gathered by investigators, applied the preventive measure of two months’ temporary detention to the 28-year-old. Under the Criminal Code, counterfeiting money may be punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
