– Yesterday, before 7:00 a.m., the duty officer at the Police Station in Bogatynia was notified of a traffic incident that occurred at one of the city's intersections. According to the report, a passenger car hit a cyclist – reports Superintendent Agnieszka Goguł, press officer for the District Police Commander in Zgorzelec.
Officers determined that the 49-year-old driver of a Mazda failed to yield the right of way to a 41-year-old cyclist, causing a collision. The spokeswoman said: – The participants in the incident are residents of Zgorzelec County and were sober at the time of the accident.

We remind you that causing a traffic accident in which the injured person does not suffer serious bodily harm is punishable by up to 3 years' imprisonment. In the event of an accident resulting in death or serious bodily harm, the prison sentence is much higher and may be as long as 8 years.
When the person responsible for the accident was intoxicated or under the influence of narcotic substances, the court may impose a prison sentence of up to 12 years and a lifetime ban on driving motor vehicles.
