During a night shift in the Sulików municipality, Zgorzelec traffic police attempted to stop the driver of an Audi for a traffic check. – However, despite the light and sound signals ordering him to stop, he began to flee, breaking numerous traffic regulations in the process – reports Superintendent Agnieszka Goguł, press officer for the Commander of the County Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec.

Police officers from Pieńsk and Węgliniec joined the pursuit. Spokeswoman:

While fleeing, the Audi driver lost control of the vehicle on a bend in Czerwona Woda, ran off the road and drove into the Czerna Mała River. Fortunately, neither the driver nor the two passengers suffered any serious injuries.

That was not the end of it. The policewoman said: – A check of the available databases showed that the 33-year-old resident of Żary County had had his driving licence revoked by the county governor. A drug test also showed that he was under the influence of methamphetamine, which officers found in the car.

The 33-year-old will answer for his actions in court. Failing to stop for a traffic check is punishable by up to five years in prison, while driving despite having one’s driving licence revoked carries a sentence of up to two years. Driving under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating substances can result in up to three years behind bars.
