Criminal investigators from the Bolesławiec police headquarters arrested a man suspected of a series of crimes. – The man visited various places and looked for opportunities to obtain loot easily. He repeatedly stole women’s handbags from apartments, and the presence of people nearby was no obstacle for the criminal – explains Asp. Sgt. Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer of the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters.
The thief took advantage of every opportunity that arose. – He took other people’s belongings from unlocked rooms and cars, as well as a phone and documents from a truck cab – the spokesperson lists.
The perpetrator was very inventive in his actions. Women’s handbags were often among his loot; he stole them after entering apartments using an invented story told to the occupants.
Policewoman:
One of the victims believed that the 44-year-old was a housing cooperative employee who had to check something in her apartment. Another woman heard that the arrested man was a neighbor’s acquaintance and was waiting for him, while he introduced himself to another woman as a household member’s friend. In every case, after the suspect’s visit, various items were found to be missing.
Because the man had no permanent residence, he rented rooms; to avoid paying for them, he twice committed burglaries and stole property. Wanting to pay for accommodation, he took advantage of the tenants in the neighboring room being temporarily absent and robbed them. In another case, he again had no way to pay the rent, so he broke into and robbed a nearby house, then settled the debt with stolen jewelry.
The suspect also has bold thefts to his name. Asp. Sgt. Anna Kublik-Rościszewska: – His victims included a woman visiting a patient in hospital and a cleaner at a church who had left her belongings in the back room. The thief had no scruples. Knowing that an elderly woman and her daughter had been in a pastry shop shortly before, he told them a story that they had to return to the shop to collect the change. When the daughter went to collect the money, he robbed her in front of the older woman, taking a pouch containing money.
Bolesławiec police proved that the arrested man had committed 24 crimes between May and September this year. Investigators had no doubt that the perpetrator should be isolated.
At the request of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec, the court ordered three months of pre-trial detention for the suspect.
Officers: – At the beginning of 2024, the 44-year-old finished serving a prison sentence imposed in connection with a judgment of the District Court in Świdnica. The man acted as a repeat offender, so he faces a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
