The incident occurred on Friday, 14 January, shortly before 8:00 p.m. On the A-18, 500 m before the exit at Golnice, the driver of a Renault Magnum struck a DAF truck that had slowed down and was preparing to leave the motorway. The DAF driver suffered only minor injuries. Firefighters spent several dozen minutes freeing the Renault driver from the wrecked vehicle. The man was taken to hospital.
The Renault driver said that he had not noticed the truck in front of him and had not even tried to brake. He struck it with full force. The metal beams he was carrying pierced the trailer and the rear of the cab before entering the interior. This made it difficult for the firefighters to extract the injured man.
