– Lubin police officers learned from a witness who saw the entire incident about the road accident that occurred on Wednesday morning – says asp. szt. Krzysztof Pawlik, deputy press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lubin. – The situation unfolding in the city centre was quite dynamic. The reporting witness saw a young man driving an Audi hit a parked car on a straight stretch of road, then get out, staggering, and flee to a nearby housing estate.

Spokesperson: – As it later turned out, after a while the drunk man returned to the car wearing different clothes, thinking that this way he would not be recognized and would avoid responsibility. The offender wanted to drive away in his Audi, but damage caused by the collision immobilized the vehicle, so he left the scene on foot.

Officers from the traffic police were sent to the scene. Based on surveillance footage, the duty officer provided them with information about the offender’s appearance.

The 37-year-old was detained at one of the bus stops. He was taken to the police headquarters, where he blew nearly 2.5 per mille. It quickly also emerged that he had a court-imposed ban on driving motor vehicles, valid until November 2026.

The irresponsible resident of Rudna municipality now faces up to five years in prison.
