– Yesterday, before midnight, the duty officer at the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica received information that citizens had apprehended an intoxicated driver on the A4 motorway towards Wrocław – reports junior aspirant Anna Tersa from the Legnica headquarters. – Police officers from the Traffic Department immediately went to the scene.

The officers established that residents of the Greater Poland Voivodeship were driving along the motorway behind a Citroën driver. The spokesperson: – The man’s driving suggested that he might be intoxicated. He changed lanes without reason, accelerated and braked. The men driving behind him did not remain indifferent: they blocked his way and then, after sensing a strong smell of alcohol from him, took his keys and notified the police.

The driver turned out to be a 40-year-old Latvian citizen. A breathalyser test showed almost 2 per mille of alcohol in his exhaled air. The policewoman: – It can be said that it was a great stroke of luck that no one was hurt and no tragedy occurred.

The man was detained and taken to the Legnica police headquarters. He will soon stand trial under an expedited procedure. The vehicle was towed away by roadside assistance.

Once again, the appropriate response of witnesses to an incident helped prevent a drunk driver from continuing to drive and perhaps avert another tragedy on the road.
