At Lubomierz’s market square, known from the cult Polish comedy „Sami swoi”, fans of cosplay—dressing up as fictional characters—gathered on Saturday, 3 August. See in the photos how imaginative the costumes they prepared were.

Wikipedia: Cosplay (Japanese コスプレ kosupure) is an artistic hobby in which people known as cosplayers create costumes and portray fictional characters. The term ‘cosplay’ originated in Japan in 1984, but the beginnings of this hobby are considered to date back to the 1st World Science Fiction Convention, held in New York in 1939.

Cosplay is often called a hobby, while cosplay itself can refer to any situation in which a costume and a change of character play an important role, and the venue is not always a stage—for example, role-playing games (also known as RPGs). Cosplayers draw inspiration from many sources, the most popular being comics (including manga), anime, television series, live-action and animated films, books and video games.

Cosplay as a hobby is also developing very rapidly today. In the 1990s, it became a phenomenon in many parts of Asia, especially Japan, and to this day it is most closely associated with that part of the world.

Cosplayers are most often found at gatherings of fans of fantasy and Asian culture, where special competitions are held to select the best costume and stage performance. Sometimes events dedicated specifically to cosplayers are organised, and the number of international competitions continues to grow. There are also special websites and apps aimed specifically at cosplay enthusiasts.
