In the first half of July, KAS carried out a nationwide campaign involving intensified inspections of postal and courier shipments. KAS officers conducted inspections at 118 locations throughout Poland. The operation covered, among others, Polish Post’s Dispatch and Sorting Hubs, Postal Customs Offices, airports, loading and distribution sites operated by courier companies, and locations designated to handle international postal shipments.
Throughout Poland, officers inspected more than 63,000 postal and courier shipments, including more than 17,000 shipments sent from China, Canada, the United States and Mexico. The remaining inspected shipments were domestic and international consignments whose destination country was Poland.
KAS officers detected 116 shipments containing illegal substances. The largest number—47—concerned medicinal and steroid products. In total, more than 23,000 anabolic steroids, opioids and erectile dysfunction medicines were seized. Officers also seized 110 kg of tobacco leaf in 42 packages.
The remaining 27 detections concerned narcotic and psychotropic substances, including:
- 3.13 kg of marijuana,
- 3.06 kg of MDMA,
- 1.20 kg of cocaine,
- 12.4 g of fentanyl,
- 39 psychoactive substances (LSD, Xanax).
Officers from all customs and tax offices in Poland took part in the operations. They used specialised equipment, including spectrometers, detectors for trace amounts of narcotic substances and X-ray scanners. The officers were also supported by service dogs trained to detect psychotropic and narcotic substances.
